Thailand police and animal control agencies part of a joint operation had arrested a dog trafficking gang on Thursday the 9Th 2012 in the provinces of Na Thom district.

Where the authorities had captured them in a truck pack high with rusty cages full of maltreated dogs, some 600 dogs purportedly destined for the dinner tables in Vietnam, says one of the arresting officers.

Also four other trucks had been seized in other districts containing in excess of 1,400 dogs all ruthlessly stack upon each other, the condition of the K9s ranged from broken bones, crushed torsos and many just laid dead or dying from their injuries, because of the inhuman treatment and transportation methods use by the sicko gangs.

This epidemic of dog trading has seen a sharp rise in the provinces surrounding the borders of Vietnam, as dog meat for human consumption hits a record high. It is suggested that dog prices can bring in around 500 – 1,000 Bart local currency and is predominately rife in Rae district in Sakon Nakhon.

Although the authorities have captured and saved some 2000 dogs from a horrific death and maltreatment, they are now being confined at the Nakhon Phanom Animal Quarantine Station, it is unclear at this time what fate awaits them.

mark, I'm glad that these dogs were rescued. It's sad to think that in all likelihood many other dog traffickers were successful in their evil journeys.

Maltreatment is horrific, cruel, and sad. I always feel that anyone who is going to kill a living creature for their later eating pleasure should at least treat those creatures with respect and not make their last time on earth be in degradation and fear. I can't help but feel that those strong emotions remain in the bodies and are imparted in the food.

Thank you for sharing.

Horrible! I can't imagine this it hurts to much. I wish these people would eat chicken, Turkey, pig, rabbit, squirrel or some sort of other cheap yet nutritious meat. Unfortunately it seems to be that Asian countries regard dogs as a source of food. We can only hope that they change their ways. Seriously though it's a growing market? That seems so odd. It would be like cannibalism for most Americans to eat dog.

Hi stessily,

Yes it’s just vile what is happening over there to these poor dogs and as more reports are slowly coming to light I am beginning to see this is not the act of a few inhumane scoundrels.

No it’s actually growing into an epidemic because of the increase in need for them in neighbouring Vietnam, the cost for dog meat has hit a big high and well the ugly scenes tell a tragic story all by themselves.

I know the Thai authorities are trying to clamp down on them as some more videos are coming out into the public domain, such as there navy making raids but to be honest its so big over there that its going to take some international embarrassing to create some change.

Hello Laura,

Yes it’s a difficult concept for us westerners to try and imagine eating dogs as they have been so intricately part of our family structure for hundreds of years.

I have to accept but don’t have to agree that other nations will find them a delicacy but if they saw those vile images and watched those sick video footages, then I can only hope it has repulsed them enough to bring in stringent laws that govern the duty of care for these animals or just stop bloody eating them all together its sick!

Thanks for commenting.

Hello Lyn,

Err. It’s just unthinkable really but more importantly awareness must be raised and some international intervention must be put into effect. I would ask many to simply join the cause I have set up to save the 2000 rescued dogs and stop this vile treatment from occurring again, I have put a link to the ‘Facebook Cause’ at the bottom of the article.

It’s important to note that I am not asking for monies as part of this cause only because I cannot clarify an animal charity in Thailand that is directly involved.

Although this is the case I still think it can make a difference if people simply join the cause and just spread the word.

It is hard to fight against animal cruelty in third countries for some, and dogs can be seen as a preferred source of food, however that does not means they should be maltreated as in the videos. Great article to raise awareness.

Hello jenubouka,

Yes you are right in one sense but ultimately raising awareness and taking the initiative to press forward with an intention is only going to be the way ahead.

It can be done but most importantly it must be done, sadly this type of vile act is still continuing and needs direct action and intervention, throw enough crap at a wall then the chances are something will stick!

So today I have created a Facebook cause and wrote an article to highlight this vile act and tomorrow somebody will do something else?

The more we try the better chances of success, nothing is impossible and always probable, the most powerful tool is at our finger tips and it can really rally one heck of a momentum in bringing about change, it just needs the participation of all that agree and or want to do there bit.

Thanks for commenting.

Be resolute in your intentions and always be victorious!

That is awesome, I will share this article on my social media links for sure to help spread the word. I find cruelty in my own neighborhood and always voice a harsh warning, some cultures carry no respect for our furry friends and this is just as inhumane as if it were a human.

Bravo markbennis; it's good to see at least something being done in Thailand, but your right in that international pressure is needed if this criminally horrible practice is to be seriously curtailed. Btw, I've heard it said that Thailand is now the most dangerous country in the world for tourists. There are good Thais certainly but if human life is near worthless suppose this type of atrocity shouldn't come as any surprise.

Hello Alaster,

Yes it seems that the Thai authorities are trying to tackle it with military support too, I hope it can act as a deterrent but as we all know, when there is good money to be earned from this vile trade, there is always going to be determined criminals that will take the risk.

Then again if enough international pressure could be raised on this sick trade than it might just be a turning point?

I hadn’t really been up to date with current affairs of Thailand up until this terrible story broke into the mainstream, but I will now take a better look into it from now on.

I am still trying to get hold of The Governor of Nakhon Phanom but my E-mails are falling on death ears as of yet, still I am positive that I will receive a relevant reply.

Thanks for commenting.

Very best wishes in your efforts Mark. The practice may be inherent in some SE Asian cultures but this should be an outrage in anyone's book. If anything will spur authorities in Thai on it'll be exposure like what your selflessly doing. Indeed, any potentially negative impact on the tourist trade may bring greater results in halting the cruel practice. On the other hand they should be made aware of the positive impressions any efforts like they've already done are.
