The 13 Steps to making a Perfect Cup of Tea
By markbennis
If you are a lover of Tea then you will know how important it is to have a good brew made to refresh those taste buds and give your energy levels a boost.
Tea lovers have mastered the fine art more akin to a craft in this delicate and slow preparation that it takes to produce a good brew, to be a worthy candidate one must have passed all initiations to this high degree.
- There is no exception and no second place to those of the weak and milky brew makers!
- Or to those that make half a cup!
- Even to those that never rinse their kettles out to remove the loose lime scale that can gag in the back of your throat!
Be warned you uninitiated your friendships and statuses are at severe risk, you may lose your place at the table or find yourselves evicted from the kitchen, and worst still you run the risk of never having that knock on the door by your neighbours or friends for a chat again.
Now, there is another option that I can offer to you and it requires patients and a little practise, yes I’m offering you the chance to be initiated into the craft, to be appreciated in times of need and to attain a higher ranking in your social communities and circle of friends.
To be thought of highly whenever somebody has a cup of tea, to be never forgotten and always mentioned when others of the craft sip on their finely brewed cups of tea.
Now to the uninitiated just follow these thirteen steps to become an enlightened member of the craft, and receive all the benefits and warm welcomes wherever you go.
Step 1: Select your best china cup.
Step 2: Now rinse out your kettles until free of loose lime scale.
Step 3: Fill up your kettles with fresh cold water, (for a pure taste to your brew why not use a Brita filter).
Step 4: Turn the kettle on to boil water.
Step 5: Select your tea bag wisely (Tetley’s tea bags are best).
Step 6: Take a moment and relax.
Step 7: Once the kettle has boiled pour the water generously into the cup.
Step 8: With a tea spoon gently massage the tea bag from side to side, taking care to not tear the bag!
· Choose your strength for your brew here is a guide:
1. Medium strength: Massage the tea bag between 10 to 15 times.
2. Strong brew: Massage the tea bag between 15 to 25 times.
3. Extra strong brew: Massage the tea bag between 25 to 35 times.
Step 9: Choose a full creamed milk fresh from the fridge.
Step 10: With your tea spoon begin to stir the cup of tea and continue to keep stirring while introducing step 11.
Step 11: Begin to add the milk very slowly and continue stirring until you require that perfect looking light brown colour.
Step 12: Optional but recommended add sugar for sweetness then stir well and finally execute the initiates coded signal by tapping your tea spoon twice on the rim of the cup.
Step 13: And finally sip your finely brewed tea with a wanting look and don’t forget to say Ahhhhh….!
Now I welcome you the initiated to stand tall and proud and to swear allegiance to the 13 steps of the craft, you the enlightened one of the brew makers of the world, and no more will you be lonely or succumb to despair because you are now part of the many and the many shall be with you always.

Your welcome :)
As a non tea maker, from a tea drinking family I would like to make the point that this does not always work. I have had someone take my hand and lead me through all the steps towards the perfect cup of tea and it still came out like 'gnat's pee'. I was not often asked to make tea.
But tea with a tea bag? where are the tea leaves, the tea pot and tea strainer that my family always insist on to make the perfect cup of tea?
Well I’m sorry to hear you have struggled to make that perfect cup of tea motherbeastly, I recommend taking the 13 steps to initiation lol.:)
The use of a tea pot and tea strainer is well, the old way of making tea that has really moved on some since then.
Now we have the tea bag, it’s a fantastic invention a filter bag with the tea leaves already in it.
Now all you have to fuss about is which brand you prefer and obviously following the 13 steps for a perfect brew.
Thanks for stopping by and all the best, mark.
Good hub Mark.
Myself I prefer coffee to tea and using cremora only.
I love the Brits but not the tea,
cheers.

Hello tugbo200-5,
I hear yah! LoL......
Thanks for posting and all the best mark.
Very useful hub, I love tea. My perfect substitute for coffee.
Thanks ravenblueu, :)
Hello Markbennis,
Found insight and much humor in your creation of the perfect cup of tea. I cringe every time my wife makes tea, she has a bad habit of re-using the water in the kettle, ahhhgg. Being a professional tea drinker...I was brought up that fresh cold water must be used every time. I believe I will initiate the making of some PJtips. Take care,
-Nicolas
As a Brit I love my cuppa. Trying more decaf green tea right now to lower my BP and it seems to be working. Still need a few good brews a day though
I have the strainer and the pot, but like you, prefer the convenience of tea bags. Also, to avoid the beastly ickies in the bottom of the pot, I don't use one but instead boil the water in a saucepan instead. ;D
markbennis: The tea ritual is so soothing for me. There are times when the lure of expanding the ritual to allow for the freshness and immediacy of fresh leaves exerts its power. Nevertheless, tea bags also are satisfying, and certainly take less time. On a brisk day such as today with outdoor house and garden responsibilities monopolizing my daylight hours, I look forward to a cup of bag tea; it will be delicious, and it will definitely conform to your steps. Lime scale --- yuk!
Hello nikashi_designs and thank you for posting, ah yes fresh water every time it’s a must! Well I think it might be time to initiate your wife in making the perfect brew? Enjoy that brew and take care
Hello ethel smith and thank you for posting, the green tea sounds interesting but as you said we still need to revert back to a really good brew. Well take care for now and all the best mark.
Hello JamaGenee and thank you for posting, oh yes the lime scale gag in the back of your throat can ruin your day, but if we stick to the 13 steps we will be just fine lol.
Hello stessily and thank you for posting, its sounds like you are a real master of the craft and thank you for sharing with all the initiates, take care and blessings.
That's a lot of steps for a quick drink of tea. But I think I'll try them out. Voting this Up and Useful.
You could try the quick step? And by instant tea but you will not be part of Craft LOL.
Thanks for posting :)
I suspect you wrote this hub a little "tongue-in-cheek." Not sure I own a china cup and saucer, but will have to check the second-hand stores to acquire one.
Voted up and SHARED.
Hello L.L. Woodard
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, ah yes, I would advise all ‘would be’ initiates to invest in a fine china cup before commencing the 13 steps, as it holds a magical connotation and is recognised by other Master brew makers around the world, welcome to the Craft
